چکیده
23 Abstract: The effects of acute GrayanotoxinI (GTX-I) administration on hepatic and renal functions in rats were investigated. GTX-I was administrated to the animals of groups 1, 2 and 3 at a single i.p. dose of 1 mg/kg, 0.5 mg/kg and 0.25 mg/kg respectively, and group 4 (control) received i.p. saline (0.9 %) solution only. One hour following the administration of GTX-I or saline, urine analysis (leukocytes, urobilinogen, protein, pH, blood, ketone, glucose, nitrites) was performed and serum was evaluated for activities of glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT), γ-glutamyl transferase (γ-GT) and isoenzymes of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) (as a percentage of total LDH activity), transferrin, ceruloplasmin and total protein concentrations and histopathologic changes in the liver and kidney. A single dose of GTXI produced proteinuria and hematuria and decreased GPT, LDH 3 , LDH 4 , and γ-GT. But the loss of GPT, LDH 3 and LDH4 partially disguised by hepatic enzyme leakage which was the result of hepatic damage occured with increasing doses of GTX-I. Hepatic damage was also detected by light microscopy.

Effects of ethanol extract of Salvia hydrangea on hepatic and renal functions of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
Objectives: A wide range of liver and kidney disorders are associated with diabetes and there is a mutual relationship between diabetes and these diseases. Herbal medicine with having abundant ingredients is one of these options. The goal of this study was to compare the effects of alcoholic extract of aerial parts of Salvia hydrangea with glibenclamide on functional tests of liver and kidney i...
متن کاملSwertia longifolia Boiss has beneficial effects on hepatic and renal functions in diabetic rats
Introduction: Diabetes is a multifactorial syndrome with high prevalence which may induce serious disorders in the body organs like the liver and kidney. This study aimed to compare the effects of the alcoholic extract of the aerial parts of Swertia longifolia Boiss on blood glucose, lipid profiles and liver and kidney function tests in streptozotocin-induced diabetes. Methods: Thirty five male...
متن کاملRenoprotective effects of GABA on ischemia/reperfusion- induced renal injury in hyperglycemic male and female rats
Introduction: Acute kidney injury (AKI) has been known as a complex clinical complication in diabetic patients. The main cause of AKI is ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI). This study was designed to investigate the protective effects of GABA on renal IRI in hyperglycemic female and male rats. Methods: Sixty STZ induced diabetic male and female Wistar rats were categorized in 10 groups (5 fem...
متن کاملOrexin-A Improves Hepatic Injury Following Renal Ischemia Reperfusion in Rats
Introduction: Orexins are novel neuropeptides that are localized in neurons in the lateral hypothalamus. They are implicated in a wide variety of physiological functions. Orexin peptides and receptors are found in many peripheral organs such as kidneys. It has been demonstrated that exogenous orexin-A can induce protective effects against ischemia–reperfusion injury in many organs. The goal ...
متن کاملThe effect of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells on renal function and histopathology in a rat model of ischemia-reperfusion induced acute kidney injury
Objective(s): It has been shown that adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSC) have protective effects in acute kidney injury (AKI). This study was conducted to assess the therapeutic effects of AD-MSC in rats subjected to acute kidney injury by 45 min of renal ischemia followed by 48 hr of reperfusion (I/R). Materials and Methods:...
